Sitze Building
est. 1886
In 1886 the Sitze building was constructed by Jacob Sitze—two facts made obvious by the top of the building. Originally, the building was meant to be the hub for all his family’s business ventures, the upstairs being home to Mrs. Sitze’s candy kitchen, and the basement home to Mr. Sitze’s plumbing shop. With the building’s two stories, decorative corbels, and thin bricks used to renovate the outside in the mid 20th-century, it was intended to have a cohesive look with the rest of the buildings downtown.

Continuing the Sitzes’ ambitious spirit, this building has housed entrepreneurs in dressmaking, plumbing, poultry, drugs, dry cleaning, jewelry, laundry, photography, and—most recently—coffee. The inside of Little Joy Coffee has many of the original historical elements of its original interior, such as the tin ceilings, exposed brick, and wood floors. In the preservation of the building, the owner, Cody Larsen, prioritized the blend of historic elements and a modern energy in the space.
