305 Division St
Thompson Building
est. 1970
Constructed in 1970, the Thompson Building is the second-newest building on Division Street, but this wasn't the first building to reside on this property. Built by A.E. Shaffner for a sandwich shop which opened the following year, the first building was built in 1928. It didn’t stay a sandwich shop for long, because in 1935, the building became home to its first of many hamburger shops.

Between the years 1935 and 1968, the building was home to no less than seven hamburger shops and diners. The ability to grab a burger on Division Street—from restaurants called Charlie’s Hamburger Shop, Louie’s Lunches, Piper’s Hamburger Haven, Mick’s Hamburger Shop, Sportsman’s Diner, and Laura’s Hamburger Shop—was a constant in Northfield during those years. But, in 1969, the hamburger legacy in this building came to an end when W.E. Thompson demolished the one-story building and began construction on a new two-story building in its place.
At the cost of $40,000, the building was completed in 1970 and became home to Thompson Realty and Benson's Barber shop. Just a few years later, Bill Storlie purchased the building and the Thompson building became home to Northfield Realty & Management Co. More recently, it was the Domino’s Office, Tom’s Barber shop, and Sevcik’s Styling Salon. The new hairstyling legacy continues until now with the Coiffure Salon.
