412 Division St
Ferstler Building
est. 1921
Unlike many buildings on Division St, the man who constructed this building did not immediately occupy this building upon its construction. While I.N. Ferstler built the building, Golden West Grocery—a business owned by Oscar B. Olson and O.J. Waller—was the first to occupy it. The second floor wasn’t used by Ferstler either, as that housed the offices of Doctors J.G. Phillips and C.W. Lee.
Opened after the building’s construction in 1921, Golden West Grocery only remained in business for a few short years until 1925. Francine’s, a womens apparel shop opened up. Through some turnover in ownership and name, the space would remain womens apparel until 1964, when the building began housing a drugstore by the name of Rogers Drug.
In the following few years, the space housed a somewhat random assortment of businesses, but in 1994 the building settled into a consistent purpose: serving Quality Bakery. Since 1947, Quality Bakery had occupied the J.S. Tripp building at 410 Division St, and as evidence of the strength of their small-town business, they expanded into the Ferstler Building in 1994. Quality Bakery served the community well for decades, but eventually, in 2022 they closed down, and since then, the Ferstler Building has not been opened to the public.
