327 Division

ca. 1900

Relatively little is known about the history of 327 Division before it was bought out by the First National Bank in 1976. We do know that immediately prior to this, it had housed Freeman’s the Hub, a local men’s clothing store, before becoming a key part of the bank’s great renovation project. It was after this purchase that this building attained the stony look it has today. This was built to match the remodeling of the main bank building’s corner portion, a 1966 renovation by local architect Robert Warn an earlier step in the First National’s overarching project.

This project was completed in 1993, after the addition of the Second Mergen Building to the bank’s property and a host of restoration work. In October of that year, a grand opening showcased the bank’s expansions to the public. Merchants Bank bought out the First National in 2020, and still holds this property and the larger main First National Bank Building to the south—visible by the large painted emblem on its north side.
