Gene Finger named Heywood Recipient
CONGRATULATIONS GENE on being named this year's Joseph Lee Heywood Distinguished Service Award recipient. Gene is an active member of the Northfield Historical Society and a lifelong contributor to civic life in Northfield. The award is presented by the Defeat of Jesse James Day Committee.
Examples of Gene's civic contributions include:
- Walked from Northfield, MN, to Fargo, ND (300 miles) and raised over $20,0000 for communication disorders
- Volunteer for Special Olympics
- Works Meals on Wheels
- Assists at Laura Baker School Services with clean-up Days, Family Day Gold tournament, etc.
- Sertoman of the year (1980) and Sertoman of the decade (1984)
- Volunteers at Camp Sertoma (camp for deaf and hard of hearing children)
- Involved with the creation of the Spring Creek Handicapped Accessible Playground.
