Well, where did the summer go?

Can I just say where did my summer go? Last time I checked I was stuck in our archives room digging around for our BRAND NEW EXHIBIT, "The Early Years of Northfield." All of a sudden the 4th of July celebration was upon us, then the grand openings of the store and the new exhibit and now it is time for the Defeat of Jesse James Days. So I would like to take some time and let you know about some of the new and exciting things that have been going on at the Northfield Historical Society.

I would like to start off and say if you haven't come down and seen our brand new Museum Store I suggest you do so. We have a brand new mercantile counter that reminds us all of what a 19th century merchant store looks like.

Along with or new store we have a lot of new merchandise.

We have 2 new books from a local author. Her name is Victoria Kasten, she lives in Lonsdale, and is only 15 years old. That’s right 15! The books are titled "Mighty Stallion" and Mighty Stallion 2, Fury's Journey." The books are great! If you ever wanted to see the Wild West through the eyes of a horse, I recommend these books. They give you a unique perspective on the American Wild West. This is the only place in Northfield that you can buy these books, so stop on in at the Museum Store and pick up your copy today!

Another Museum Store exclusive is the "Cat's Meow, Scriver building replica." This is a beautiful reproduction of the Scriver building store front. If you would like to take a great piece of Northfield's history home with you this is perfect.

A new book written by local author John Koblas titled "Jesse James in Iowa.” This book is about the James-Younger gang and their dealings in Iowa before the attempted robbery of the 1st National bank of Northfield.

We also have the official James-Younger gang t-shirt that commemorates the gangs trip to Germany this past year.

We also will have a brand new Northfield t-shirt titled "Vision Vitality and Values” this shirt is great! It has pictures of John and Ann North on the front and fits in perfect with our new exhibit. This is a perfect gift to send someone that wants to know what Northfield is really about or is great for a Northfielder to wear and show off their town’s proud history.

In addition, to ournew merchandise you have to take a look at the new exhibit on Northfield history titled "The Early years of Northfield."

As it is getting closer to the Defeat of Jesse James Days I would also like to announce our extended hours for that weekend Friday September 8th, we will be open from 9 a.m. till 6 p.m. and Saturday September 9th, we will be open from 9 a.m. till 6 p.m. and Sunday September 10th, we will be open from 10 a.m. till 6 p.m.

Well that’s about it for what is new and exciting at the Northfield Historical Society, so stop on down and tell ‘em Hayes sent you!
